Dane Rescue News

Exciting rescue news is coming to Houston!  As you know, for far too long Houston has been without a dedicated Great Dane rescue organization.  That is soon to change!

A dedicated group of Great Dane enthusiasts is in the process of forming a true breed rescue organization to serve the Greater Houston area.  We are currently looking into joining forces with Great Dane Rescue of North Texas to become a southeast Texas chapter of GDRNT.  If that does not work out, we will go forward in becoming our own 501c non-profit organization.  We have a goal of completing all the legalities and paperwork by April.

In the meantime, we have been functioning in a rescue capacity for those danes needing immediate placement by providing foster homes, medical care, and eventual adoption.   We have policies and procedures in place for accepting danes into our program, placing them with an appropriate foster, and adopting them out.  All potential fosters and adopters are required to fill out lengthy applications which are reviewed by 3 individuals, a home evaluation is completed, and references are checked.  Dogs will only be adopted out once they have been spayed or neutered, temperament has been evaluated, and any health issues have been addressed.   We are very dedicated to ensuring that each dog’s new family will be their forever home.

As you can imagine, the start up process is full of hurdles, but we are confident that with our large and dedicated group of volunteers we will thrive and fill an important void here in the Houston area.  We hope to have the support of the Great Dane Club of Greater Houston, Inc to rescue and save as many of our gentle giants as we possibly can and look forward to working together to promote rescue efforts in our area.

As a member of both the GDCGHI and as a founding member of the new rescue organization, I hope to be able to build a long lasting relationship between the two groups to benefit the many great danes that are not as well loved and cared for as ours are.  If any members of GDCGHI are interested in fostering or if you would like more information about our great dane rescue group, please contact me, Wendy Larsen, at photos@wendylarsen.com

I personally have used this company to transport a 13mon old male pup from Houston to Jacksonville, FL. The price was incredibly reasonable and best yet the service was wonderful. My puppy had a safe, easy going trip where he was walked every few hours and loved on the entire trip! He arrived happy, well fed and was not stressed in the least. I know others that have used this service as well and they were just as pleased!
